What it is
Back or neck pain, with or without limb symptoms, that persists or recurs after spinal surgery. Causes may be multiple and require medical coordination.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Persistent or recurrent pain after surgery
- Nerve symptoms in an arm or leg
- Reduced tolerance for walking, sitting, work or loading

Persistent Pain
When is medical reassessment needed?
New or progressive pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, a history of cancer, fracture risk after trauma, neurological weakness, saddle numbness, bladder or bowel change, or loss of balance requires prompt or emergency assessment according to the symptoms.
