What it is

Regional pain associated with muscles and surrounding tissues, often with tenderness and reduced tolerance. Tender points alone should not be treated as proof of cause.

Typical clinical symptoms

  • Local or referred pain from a muscular region
  • Pressure sensitivity and stiffness
  • Pain with prolonged use or repeated loading

Persistent Pain

When is medical reassessment needed?

New or progressive pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, a history of cancer, fracture risk after trauma, neurological weakness, saddle numbness, bladder or bowel change, or loss of balance requires prompt or emergency assessment according to the symptoms.
