What it is
A vertebral compression fracture, sometimes after minor or no clear trauma in weakened bone. New pain or postural change requires medical assessment.
Typical clinical symptoms
- New focal back pain
- Pain with standing, walking or position change
- Loss of height or increasing kyphosis

Persistent Pain
When is medical reassessment needed?
New or progressive pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, a history of cancer, fracture risk after trauma, neurological weakness, saddle numbness, bladder or bowel change, or loss of balance requires prompt or emergency assessment according to the symptoms.
