What it is
Autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis may cause chronic pain, joint inflammation and progressive damage. Rheumatology assessment and management are required.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Swelling, warmth and pain in several joints
- Prolonged morning stiffness
- Fatigue, reduced energy or systemic flares

Persistent Pain
When is medical reassessment needed?
New or progressive pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, a history of cancer, fracture risk after trauma, neurological weakness, saddle numbness, bladder or bowel change, or loss of balance requires prompt or emergency assessment according to the symptoms.
