Extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) tendinopathy or subluxation

What it is

Overload of the ECU tendon or instability within its sheath on the ulnar side of the wrist, often after forceful rotation or in racket sports.

Typical clinical symptoms

  • Ulnar and dorsal wrist pain
  • Pain with resisted extension and ulnar deviation
  • Snapping of the tendon during pronation and supination
  • Pain with racket grip, lifting or weight-bearing through the hand
