What it is
Prolonged performance reduction with fatigue and mood change after imbalance between load and recovery; medical causes must be excluded.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Reduced performance lasting weeks or months
- Persistent fatigue, disturbed sleep and irritability
- Frequent infections or usual training feeling unusually difficult

When is medical assessment needed?
Deformity or an open wound after trauma, immediate loss of function, disproportionate pain with a tense segment, neurological weakness, worsening symptoms after a head impact, collapse during exertion, confusion in heat and very dark urine after exercise require emergency assessment.
