What it is
A spectrum from heat cramps and heat exhaustion to heat stroke with high temperature and central nervous-system dysfunction.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache or collapse
- Confusion, abnormal behaviour, disorientation or loss of consciousness
- Hot skin; sweating may be present or absent

When is medical assessment needed?
Deformity or an open wound after trauma, immediate loss of function, disproportionate pain with a tense segment, neurological weakness, worsening symptoms after a head impact, collapse during exertion, confusion in heat and very dark urine after exercise require emergency assessment.
