What it is
Degenerative change affecting cartilage and surrounding structures in the main shoulder joint. Radiographic severity does not always match symptoms.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Deep shoulder pain aggravated by activity
- Stiffness and progressive loss of movement
- Grinding or crepitus during movement
- Night pain and difficulty with daily activities

When is medical assessment needed?
Deformity after trauma, sudden inability to raise the arm, loss of sensation or pulse, a hot red shoulder with fever, or pain with chest pressure or breathing difficulty require prompt medical assessment.
