Cancer-related pain

What it is

Pain from a primary or metastatic tumour may resemble musculoskeletal pain. Suspicion requires medical assessment and is not managed with physiotherapy alone.

Typical clinical symptoms

  • Progressive, constant or unusual pain for the person
  • Unexplained weight loss, fatigue or a history of cancer
  • Night pain accompanied by other systemic features

Persistent Pain

When is medical reassessment needed?

New or progressive pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, a history of cancer, fracture risk after trauma, neurological weakness, saddle numbness, bladder or bowel change, or loss of balance requires prompt or emergency assessment according to the symptoms.
