What it is
Irritation of the hip-flexor tendon or its movement over anterior structures, which may produce a painful snap.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Anterior hip or groin pain
- Snapping while raising or lowering the leg
- Pain with running, stairs, kicking or rising from sitting

Trauma with deformity or inability to bear weight, a very painful hip with fever, a child or adolescent with sudden limping, progressive neurological weakness, bladder or bowel change, and unexplained pain with systemic symptoms require prompt medical assessment.
