What it is
A sprain or tear of the primary medial stabiliser against valgus stress. It commonly follows repeated throwing load but can also occur after acute trauma.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Medial elbow pain during throwing
- Loss of throwing velocity, control or tolerance
- A pop with acute injury
- Pain or instability with valgus stress; ulnar nerve irritation may coexist

When is medical coordination needed?
Deformity after trauma, immediate inability to move the arm, severe pain with a tense forearm, a cold or pulseless hand, progressive numbness or weakness, and redness with fever require prompt medical assessment.
