What it is
Degenerative change in joint cartilage and bone related to age, previous trauma or repeated loading. Osteophytes and loose bodies may develop.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Gradually developing pain and stiffness
- Loss of full extension or flexion
- Grinding, catching or mechanical locking
- Difficulty with work, sport or activities requiring forearm rotation

When is medical coordination needed?
Deformity after trauma, immediate inability to move the arm, severe pain with a tense forearm, a cold or pulseless hand, progressive numbness or weakness, and redness with fever require prompt medical assessment.
