What it is
Disproportionate pain with sensory, vasomotor and motor changes after surgery or trauma, requiring early multidisciplinary recognition and care.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Burning pain or marked touch sensitivity
- Temperature, colour, sweating or swelling change
- Stiffness, weakness and very limited limb use

After Surgery
When should the medical team be contacted?
Fever or wound discharge, wound opening, new one-sided leg swelling, difficulty breathing, chest pain, a cold limb, progressive weakness, deformity or sudden loss of function require immediate contact with the medical team or emergency services.
