What it is
Rehabilitation aims to restore functional movement, strength, gait and independence after replacement of part or all of the joint surface.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Postoperative pain and swelling
- Restricted flexion or extension
- Weakness, slower gait and difficulty with stairs or rising from a chair

After Surgery
When should the medical team be contacted?
Fever or wound discharge, wound opening, new one-sided leg swelling, difficulty breathing, chest pain, a cold limb, progressive weakness, deformity or sudden loss of function require immediate contact with the medical team or emergency services.
