Current is delivered through electrodes using parameters selected for the intended response. TENS, NMES and other forms are not interchangeable.
ELECTRICAL STIMULATION
Electrotherapy + vacuum
Electrical stimulation including TENS, IFC, galvanic and Russian currents, alongside vacuum-assisted application, selected for sensory or motor goals.
When considered
- Sensory modulation with TENS, IFC or another appropriate current
- Muscle activation when voluntary recruitment is limited
- A clearly defined bridge towards active exercise or function
Role in the plan
Electrotherapy may support symptom modulation or muscle activation when indicated, but the purpose, dose and transition to active function must be explicit.
Before use
- Screen electronic implants and relevant medical history
- Check skin, sensation and electrode placement
- Select waveform and dose for the stated objective
- Stop and reassess if pain, irritation or an unexpected response occurs
