What it is
Irritation where the first dorsal-compartment tendons cross the second-compartment tendons in the distal dorsoradial forearm. It should be distinguished from de Quervain tenosynovitis.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Pain several centimetres above the dorsoradial wrist
- Crepitus or rubbing with wrist movement
- Pain with repeated extension, rowing, skiing or weight training
- Swelling and tenderness over the tendon intersection

When is medical assessment needed?
Deformity after trauma, a finger that cannot actively bend or straighten, progressive loss of sensation or strength, a cold or pulseless hand, an open wound, and redness with fever require prompt medical assessment.
