What it is
Complete or partial loss of normal joint-surface contact. Reduction should be performed by trained personnel after neurovascular assessment.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Deformity and severe pain
- Inability to move or use the joint
- Numbness, weakness or circulation change requires emergency care

When is medical assessment needed?
Deformity or an open wound after trauma, immediate loss of function, disproportionate pain with a tense segment, neurological weakness, worsening symptoms after a head impact, collapse during exertion, confusion in heat and very dark urine after exercise require emergency assessment.
