What it is
A load-related condition of the long-head biceps tendon at the front of the shoulder. It may coexist with rotator cuff or labral pathology.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Anterior shoulder or bicipital-groove pain
- Pain with lifting, pulling or overhead work
- Tenderness over the tendon
- Clicking or catching when labral or stability problems coexist

Deformity after trauma, sudden inability to raise the arm, loss of sensation or pulse, a hot red shoulder with fever, or pain with chest pressure or breathing difficulty require prompt medical assessment.
