What it is
A fracture of the pelvic ring or hip socket after trauma or, in fragile bone, lower loads. Organ and blood-vessel injury may coexist.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Severe pelvic, groin or low-back pain
- Difficulty or inability to bear weight
- Bruising, dizziness, abdominal pain or bleeding requires emergency care

When is medical guidance needed?
Trauma with deformity or inability to bear weight, a very painful hip with fever, a child or adolescent with sudden limping, progressive neurological weakness, bladder or bowel change, and unexplained pain with systemic symptoms require prompt medical assessment.
