What it is
Elbow-joint inflammation caused by rheumatological disease, crystal deposition (as in gout), or infection. Septic arthritis is a medical emergency.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Pain, swelling, warmth and restricted movement
- Sudden severe onset in crystal or septic arthritis
- Fever, chills or feeling unwell with infection
- Other affected joints and prolonged morning stiffness in inflammatory disease

When is medical coordination needed?
Deformity after trauma, immediate inability to move the arm, severe pain with a tense forearm, a cold or pulseless hand, progressive numbness or weakness, and redness with fever require prompt medical assessment.
