What it is
A superficial or deep infection after surgery requires prompt medical assessment and is not managed with physiotherapy alone.
Typical clinical symptoms
- Redness, warmth, discharge or wound opening
- Fever, chills or systemic illness
- Pain and swelling increasing instead of improving

After Surgery
When should the medical team be contacted?
Fever or wound discharge, wound opening, new one-sided leg swelling, difficulty breathing, chest pain, a cold limb, progressive weakness, deformity or sudden loss of function require immediate contact with the medical team or emergency services.
